Your privacy, explained
You can search for weather without creating an account. Here is how weather.ws handles your information.

What stays on your device
Saved places, up to six recently visited cities, temperature units and theme preferences are stored in your browser. Manual language choices are remembered in a first-party preference cookie for up to one year. Otherwise the homepage uses the browser’s preferred supported language. Preferences are not synchronized to an account. A small cache of recent search results is kept in page memory and disappears when the page session ends. See Cookies & storage for details and removal instructions.
Search and location
On the homepage, we use an approximate area from your internet connection when our delivery provider, Cloudflare, supplies it. We match that area to a nearby city or town in our directory and request weather for the named place. This does not use your device’s GPS or require browser location permission. Network location can be inaccurate, especially with a VPN or mobile connection. You can always choose a different place in search.
Search text is sent to weather.ws to match names against our place directory. Choosing a place sends its coordinates to our weather service. Device location is requested only after you choose “Use my location” and grant browser permission.
Device coordinates are rounded to three decimal places before navigation and weather lookup. This can still identify a relatively precise area. Coordinates appear in the point forecast URL and may remain in browser history or be disclosed if you share that URL. Select a named town instead if you prefer not to use device location.
Weather requests and providers
Our server sends forecast coordinates to WeatherAPI to retrieve weather. Responses are temporarily cached to reduce repeated requests. On weather map pages, your browser requests forecast tiles and legends directly from WeatherAPI. These requests disclose connection information, including your IP address, and the viewed map tile area. Map imagery is not requested on ordinary forecast pages. WeatherAPI handles information it receives under its privacy policy. Clicking an external source link takes you to a separate service with its own policies.
Service operation
Serving a page requires processing connection information such as your IP address. When a trusted proxy supplies an IP address, the application uses a keyed hash for short-lived request limits. Application request logs include status, timing, request identifiers and cache or error states; the application does not deliberately include search text, raw coordinates or raw IP addresses in those logs.
Cloudflare delivers the website and provides network protection. Railway hosts the application and its cache. Infrastructure logs can contain additional request information; retention depends on the provider and service configuration. The application includes no advertising trackers or third-party product analytics.
Your choices
You can decline or revoke location permission in your browser, remove saved places, and clear weather.ws site data. You do not need to enable location to search by name. A direct contact channel for privacy questions and requests is not currently available. See our Contact page for contact availability.
